A new , "Met de Hr.Ms Onderzeeboot K XVIII de wereld rond", has been released. The video shows the voyage around the world of the Dutch submarine K XVIII in 1934 and 1935.

A new about Dutch the Dutch Navy in the years 1924 - 1940 has been released. It contains footage about on numerous surface vessels and the submarines K VI, K XVIII, K XIX, K XX, O 16, O 12, O 19 and O 20.
  
New book "Hr.Ms. K XVII en Hr.Ms. O 16", published soon

A new about Dutch submarines will be published shortly. The book "Hr. Ms. K XVII en Hr.Ms. O 16" describes the history, loss, search and rediscovery of these two submarines which were lost during World War II in the South China Sea.
  
Hr.Ms. Bruinvis returns from last voyage of 1997

The submarine Hr.Ms. Bruinvis returned from her last 1997 voyage.  She participated in several exercises with, among others, the Dutch Hr.Ms. Dolfijn and the British H.M.S. Splendid. After a short visit to Den Helder for repairs, she sailed to the FOST-area  south of England for a three-week exercise. After leaving FOST, the Bruinvis headed for London to participate  in the IMDEX exposition. IMDEX was followed by  the NATO exercise AUTUMN 97 and a Partnership for peace exercise with the Polish vessel Kazub. After a visit to Stavanger, the Bruinvis arrived in Den Helder on the 26th of October.
  
Taiwan considers building its own subs

Taipei: Taiwan may build its own submarines.............The Navy operates four submarines, including two Dutch-built submarines and two obsolete United States submarines. Taipei wanted to buy at least six full-sized submarines from the Netherlands but was rejected after Beijing downgraded diplomatic ties with the Dutch.
  
Accommodation ship "Cornelius Drebbel" officially decommissioned

Today, 27 September 1997, the submarine service accommodation ship Cornelius Drebbel has been officially decommissioned. She is to be transferred to the 'Directie Materieel' and sold.

A small and informal decommissioning ceremony for the submarine service accommodation ship Cornelius Drebbel was held on 11 September 1997.  In the future submarine crews of subs undergoing long periods of maintenance will be accommodated in the barracks of the Van Ghent Kazerne instead of on board the Cornelius Drebbel .
  
Walrus(2) at Rotterdam "World Harbour Days"

The Dutch submarine Walrus (2) was open for the public during the 'World Harbour Days' in Rotterdam last weekend. The Walrus (2) just returned from a maintenance period at the R.D.M. shipyard.

After being under repair for a year, the Dutch submarine Walrus (2) returned to active service. The new commander  Ltz. I  J.H. Hulsker will take the boat to Norwegian waters for a four-week period of trials and work-up.
  
Dutch subs at R.D.M shipyard for sale and under repair
Nov 1997 R.D.M. shipyard still has the submarines Zwaardvis (2), Zeehond (3) and Tijgerhaai (2) for sale. The yard currently has the submarine Zeeleeuw (2) under repair. Picture

Dutch Submarine service celebrates 90th anniversary

The Dutch submarine service celebrated its 90th anniversary. The guests were welcomed with a speech by  the Commander of the Submarine Service KTZ . The Commander also presented a Bronze plaque to the submarine service. After paying their respects to the submariners who fallen in World War II, the celebration continued with a reunion party.
