29 Mar 1943: Tapir is laid down at Vickers Armstrong, Barrow in Furness in the U.K.
1944
21 Aug 1944: Tapir is launched30 Dec 1944: Tapir is commissioned to the British Royal Navy.
1945
8 May 1945: Germany surrenders.
15 Aug 1945: Japan surrenders.
1948
18 June 1948: Tapir is transferred (on loan for a period of 5 years) to Royal Netherlands Navy and renamed Zeehond (2).
12 July 1948: Zeehond (2) is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy.
12 July 1948 - 30 Apr 1949: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .
Together with O 24 and Hr.Ms. Van Kinsbergen, the Zeehond (2) visits Curaçao. Gravity measurements are taken during the trip (the first following the war). The Zeehond (2) conducts a long snort trip on the way back.
1949
4 June - 28 Nov 1949: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .Jun - July 1949: Zeehond (2) participates in "Exercise Victory".
Nov 1949: Zeehond (2) and Dolfijn (2) participate in a British Royal Navy exercise.
28 Nov 1949 - 15 Oct 1950: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .
1951
5 Feb - 27 Feb 1951: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .
27 Feb - 24 Apr 1951: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .
24 Apr 1951 - 12 Jan 1953: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .
1952
13 Sep - 26 Sep 1952: Zeehond (2) participates in the NATO exercise Mainbrace.1953
12 Jan - 1 June 1953: Zeehond (2) is under the command of Ltz. I .15 July 1953: Zeehond (2) is decommissioned and transferred back to the British Royal Navy
16 Dec 1953: Zeehond (2) is renamed Tapir and commissioned to the British Royal Navy once again.
