1915

UC 8 is laid down at the A.G. Vulkan shipyard in Hamburg, Germany

Jul. 1915: UC 8 is launched

UC 8 is commissioned to the German Navy

4 Nov 1915: UC 8 strands on the Dutch Terschelling coast (53º23'N-05º05'E) because of poor navigation.

1916

19 Jan 1916: UC 8 is salved but interned because of the fact that Germany is fighting World War I and the Netherlands is neutral.

The knowledge obtained from the UC 8 is used for the refit of O 8.

1917

30 Jan 1917: The Dutch Navy buys the UC 8 from the German Navy.

The twelve pistols (type Pistole 04) that are on board are transferred to the Navy Air Service, where they are used as personal weapons for pilots.

13 Mar 1917: UC 8 is commissioned to the Royal Netherlands Navy as M 1

13 Mar 1917 - 19 Feb 1918: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. I  D. Scalongne.

1917: The Zeiss periscope of the M 1 is dismantled and installed on the O 8. The M 1 receives the scope of  O 8 in return.

1918

19 Feb - 4 Oct 1918: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  L.A.C.M. Doorman.

4 Oct - 24 Dec 1918: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.L. Chaillet.

24 Dec 1918 - 7 May 1919: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  G.E.V.L. Beckman.

1919

7 May - 15 June 1919: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.J. van der Have.

15 June - 21 Oct 1919: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  Esq. H.P. Coertzen de Kock.

21 Oct 1919 - 20 Apr 1920: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.G. van den Berg.

20 Apr 1920 - 26 Apr 1921: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  L.A.C.M. Doorman.

1921

26 Apr 1921 - 1 Jan 1922: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.C. Cornelis.

1922

1 Jan - 1 June 1922: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.J. Logger.

1 June - 21 Aug 1922: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. I  G.E.V.L. Beckman.

21 Aug 1922 - 8 Apr 1923: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J. van Leeuwen.

8 Apr - 1 Oct 1923: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  J.J. Wichers.

1924

30 Nov 1924 - 21 May 1926: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  H.C.W. Moorman.

1931

1 June 1931 - 16 Nov 1932: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. I  F.W. Coster.

?1931: M 1 is decommissioned.

1932

16 Nov 1932 - 1933: M 1 is under the command of Ltz. II  W.J. Kruys.

1933

M 1 is discarded.
