Spectrum is Signaal's (a Dutch company) data/combat system developed for the two Dutch-built Taiwanese submarines (Chien Lung / Hai Lung class), which have Dutch-developed SIASS sonar's. As in the earlier systems, a processing cabinet contains a pair of SMR-MU picture-keeping computers. Apparently the sonar data computers are included in the associated SIASS system rather than in Spectrum. The system has sufficient signal-processing capability to conduct LOFAR analysis in each preformed beam (and sufficient memory to store the results). The data bus feeds three or four multifunction two-operator SIGHT consoles (each with a 19 inch colour screen and a smaller alphanumeric processor), each containing a pair of SMRMU computers. As in other systems in this series, two identical weapon-electronics cabinets each contain interfaces to control half the torpedo tubes (normally four each).

The active transducer and cylindrical receiving array feed into a common processor (with separate pre-processors for active and passive operation); the passive ranger and acoustic-intercept arrays share a common processor (with separate front-end pre-processors); and the non acoustic sensors (ESM, radar, periscope, and navigational aids) share a common processor.

Spectrum can maintain 35 simultaneous tracks, and it can control four missiles (such as Harpoon) and four wire-guided torpedoes simultaneously. The classification library holds up to 300 signatures. The version sold to Taiwan did not include Harpoon or, reportedly, Mk 48 software.

An improved Spectrum II would have equipped follow-on Dutch export submarines. it would have used the standard processing and display components of the new Karel Doorman-class frigates. The display units have 1376 x 1024-pixel colour raster screens and employ 68020-series microprocessors. They are connected by Ethernet data buses (10 Mbytes/sec), and data are recorded on two digital optical disks with a capacity of up to 250 Mbits each.
