Signaal's (HSA), which is a Dutch company, submarine-torpedo FCS (Fire Control System) introduced a fixed program solid-state digital computer into its M8/1 version (1960). It handles several targets in parallel (three in the M8/24 version), cycling both position-keeper and torpedo ballistics functions among them.  Because M8 handles several targets at a time, it displays its tactical data on a PPI (range scales 5/10/20 km or 5/10/20/40 kyd) rather than on dials. Like earlier single target systems, it accepts a mixture of passive and active sonar data, as well as radar and periscope data. The maximum own ship speed is 40 kts, and the maximum target speed is 60 kts. M8 can control straight-running, homing/programmed, or wire guided torpedoes. Special-purpose computers added an automated plotting capability for TMA.

The Royal Netherlands Navy let the M8 development contract in 1955.  The successor system, SINBADS (originally M8/41), is a full submarine CDS.

The M8/7 system is installed in the Zwaardvis (2) class and the M8 SINBADS on 2 Indonesian 209-type submarines (between 1977 and 1981).

In May 2005 Gorka L. Martinez Mezo writes "SINBADS has at least one more client, the Argentine Navy uses two SINBADS CDS aboard its two TR-1700/SANTA CRUZ class subs. The two Argentine Type 209 subs used the Signaal M8/8 version."
