GIDS
(GIpsy Data Registration System) will be a computer system for on board use of the Dutch Walrus (2) class submarines of the Royal Dutch Navy. Using GIDS, one will be able to log operational Command & Control information from the submarine combat system GIPSY (Geautomatiseerd Informatieverwerkend Presentatie Systeem) and perform a quick look analysis of the data. Various applications will be provided in order to do so, which enable the user to view data as a function of time and to make plots.Additionally GIDS will have built-in functions for:
- importing external tracks
- exporting information to other formats
- processing sensor information for reference purposes
GIDS will be developed under Windows NT and operate on a ruggidised Personal Computer using dedicated real time hardware for interfacing with GIPSY.
As part of the project a special computer program will be developed for logging and controlling an underwater noise generator. This application is to be used on the surface ship, which tows the noise generator.
GIDS is developed by TNO-FEL (a Dutch organization). It was planned to complete GIDS in December 1998.
