The aft deck of Zwaardvis (2),1986 off the Norwegian coast. From left to right: Stoker Chris Mulder, ODVB Alex Kischemuller, and Rob Dupree in a diving suit. It is standard procedure to have a diver ready whenever the crew is taking some fresh air on deck (Photo: © Peter den Tek).
Zwaardvis (2) conducting the so called 'bukken' (bending over) procedure. During this procedure the boat is trimmed so that the ballast tanks forward are heavier than the ballast tanks aft. The result is that the propeller is partially out of the water, this allows the crew to inspect the propeller. Note the brown tip of a propeller blade in the background.
