On +/- 21 Dec 1941 the K XVII is struck by a mine while she is exiting the Gulf of Siam. The submarine and all of her 36 hands are lost.
On 15 Dec 1941 the O 16 is struck by a mine while she is exiting the Gulf of Siam. 41 men are lost. Only one crewmember, boatswain Cornelis de Wolf, survives.
