In this case the operation on board the Tijgerhaai (2) is performed off Curaçao in March 1990 and during day light, but normally these operations are of course performed under the cover of darkness.
During an exit and re-entry operation the sub is prepared on the surface (in a harbour), note the extra grips, ropes, the zodiac and air bottles.

While the submarine is at periscope depth the navy seals exit the submarine through the escape hatch in the forward torpedo room and use the ropes to find their way to the back of the conning tower. Behind the tower, in the place where normally the walk way is located, a zodiac inflatable boat is stored. The extra air bottles supply air for the seals so they can wait for each other and surface together. The seals inflate the boat on the surface and sail to the shore for their special mission. When they return the boat is deflated and the seals enter the sub again via the forward torpedo room escape hatch.
