Not to be allowed to fall into the hands of the enemy.
To be destroyed, by fire when no longer required.

COLOMBO. SUBMARINE PATROL ORDER No. 11.

Orders for patrol by H.N.M.S. O 23 to the North of the Malacca Strait.
(Short title - C S P 11)

H.N.M.S. O 23 is to proceed from COLOMBO to parry out a patrol to the North of the MALACCA STRAIT in accordance with the following instructions:

2. TIME AND DATE OF SAILING. 1030z 1st September 1942.

Colombo South Submarine Sanctuary will be in force from 1030z to 1330z 1st September.

3. OBJECT.

To attack and then report enemy vessels.

4. PATROL ZONE.

Between latitudes 005 degrees and 012 degrees North and Eastward from longitude 092 degrees East to the coasts of MALAYA and SIAM.

5. ROUTE TO PATROL.

By QOA, 390 thence through:

L.  005 deg. 42 min. North; 079 deg. 42 min. East
M. 005 deg. 28 min. North; 081 deg. 06 min. East
N. 005 deg. 58 min. North; 083 deg. 02 min. East
O.  007 deg. 48 min. North; 087 deg. 23 min. East
P.  009 deg. 46 min. North; 092 deg. 04 min. East

thence through TEN DEGREES CHANNEL.

6. PASSAGE TO PATROL.

At Commanding Officer's discretion on the surface to position P.
Total Bombing Restrictions are in force as in S.O.S/M Colombo signal 1019z 30th August.

7. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS.

The patrol should be kept for a part of the time off PORT BLAIR, after which position should be shifted to the vicinity of THE BOTHERS and SALANG ISLAND.
The patrol is not to be pressed closer to PORT BLAIR than la prudent having regard to the weather conditions and the fact that an enemy Air Base is established there.
When off PORT BLAIR or near the line PEKANG-SABABO & diving patrol is to be kept, elsewhere in the zone the Commanding Officer, H.N.M.S. O 23 may, at his discretion, keep a surface patrol provided the conditions are suitable for the long-range sighting of aircraft.

8. LEAVING PATROL.

Should no order to the contrary be received, O 23 is to leave patrol after dark on 14th September and return to COLOMBO,

Through positions:

R. 005 deg. 00 min. North; 093 deg. 30 min East
S. 005 deg. 02 min. North; 087 deg. 30 min. East
T. 005 deg. 02 min. North; 081 deg. 55 min. East
U. 005 deg. 25 min. North; 079 deg. 39 min. East

thence by Q.C.A. 538.

10. RETURN PASSAGE.

Diving during daylight until position R. is reached, thereafter on surface at Commanding Officer's discretion.
Total Bombing Restrictions will be arranged from position R. The times arranged will be signalled.

11. TIME OF ARRIVAL AT COLOMBO.

The time at which O 23 is expected to arrive at COLOMBO will be signalled.

12. INFORMATION OF OWN AND ENEMY FORCES.

Issued separately to Commanding Officer, O 23 only.
