Tom Anderson built the masters, moulds and the fiberglass hulls. Steve Reichmuth did the detail work and painting. Finally Will Oudmayer built the watertight tube for the electronics.
Tom turned the basic hull on a lathe, then cut the lower bow off and glued in the cross sections and shaped it by hand. The deck was built up with cross sections and filled in with 'Bondo'. Below a brief version of the construction process.
- Two hull halves were screwed together and then turned on a duplicating lathe, template was used for the styles to follow the hull lines.
- Halves were separated and the top half was set in a jig so cross sections saw lines could be cut in the hull where the cross sections of the superstructure would be glued in place.
- Superstructure cross sections were glued onto saw cuts the top half of the hull.
- Space in between the superstructure frames were filled with 'Bondo' and sanded to shape.
- Bow was cut off the bottom half of the hull.
- Bow cross sections were glued in place and sanded to shape.
- Hull was finished sanded to 600 grit.
- Hull halves were placed on a parting board, waxed ten times, and then coated with Teflon mould release.
- Fiberglas and epoxy mould was then built up.
- The two female moulds were used for all hulls and were laid up with fiberglas and epoxy.
- Fin was made in the same method.
- Rudders and bow array were silicone moulds.After finishing this project Tom gave the moulds to The Scale Shipyard.
